OECD Corporate Governance Committee publishes The G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance
On 11 September 2023, the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) Corporate Governance Committee published a revision of the Principles of Corporate Governance, endorsed by the G20 Leaders.
Previously, at the annual OECD Ministerial Council meeting in June 2023, Ministers adopted the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance. With the aim of strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks that support sustainability and access to capital markets finance, the Principles were revised.
The Principles were revised in light of recent developments in capital markets and corporate governance policies and practices, and to ensure their continued existence as the leading international standard for corporate governance.
One of the main objectives of the revision was to promote corporate governance policies that support the sustainability and resilience of companies which, in turn, can contribute to the sustainability and resilience of the wider economy. Another main objective was to support national efforts to improve companies' access to capital market financing.
Out of this review comes a new chapter on "Sustainability and Resilience" to assist companies in managing the challenges and opportunities posed by the climate transition, and other sustainability challenges.
